The dietetic service provided to the paediatric renal unit is staffed by 3 specialist renal dietitians and a dietetic assistant,

 

During an average year the dietitians see approximately 180-200 patients (70 new patients) requiring 1500 total contacts. Their work includes:

  • seeing patients on the haemodialysis unit  
  • on home peritoneal dialysis when they come to clinic       
  • post transplantation       
  • patients admitted with acute kidney injury       
  • other renal disorders admitted to the unit. 
  • there are dietitians present at the two weekly CKD outpatient clinics on a Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Pearl Pugh, Lead Paediatric Renal Dietitian

Pearl Pugh is the lead specialist renal dietitian for EMEESY.  She joined the team in 2002. 

Pearl completed a PhD in 2020 in dietary phosphate intervention in early CKD

She has an on-going research interest in dietary interventions to slow progression of CKD and supporting families to meals that are suitable for a renal diet

Emma Tissington, Paediatric Renal Dietitian

Emma Tissington joined the paediatric renal team in 2011. 

She works part-time and her working days are Wednesdays,Thursdays and Fridays.

Alison Tooke, Paediatric Renal Dietitian

Alison Tooke first joined the paediatric renal team in 2010. 

She moved to support children with metabolic disorders, which she continues to do but returned part-time to the renal team in 2020. 

Salima Kahla, Dietetic Assistant

Salima Kahla joined the team as a dietetic assistant in 2022. 

Her role includes supporting dietitians with food diaries, sourcing supplements and providing dietetic advice.
