Transplantation

Nottingham Children’s Hospital is one of 10 paediatric renal transplant units in the UK. Average numbers of transplants carried out per year are around 10 to 12 though this can be very variable. The number of children with functioning transplants followed up in clinic is currently around 80.

The transplant service is supported by 3 consultant paediatric nephrologists and 2 transplant clinical nurse specialists.

Parents or other relatives wishing to consider living donation are able to speak to the Paediatric Living Donor Transplant Co-ordinator.

When your child's GFR falls close to 20, we wil usually arrange a CKD day, when you attend Nottingham Children's Hospital to meet key members of the team who will look after your child throughout the work-up for transplantation and afterwards.
