This is the main source of the renal nutrition information used by EMEESY dietitians.  There is an extensive range of evidence-based guidelines, practical guides and also patient information.

The Paediatric Renal Nutrition Taskforce is an international group of paediatric nephrologists and paediatric renal dietitians.

To date the group have produced several guidelines on different aspects of nutritional management of childhood CKD as well as a range of patient/parent resources.

The main repository of web resources is housed on a Vitaflo website called VIA: www.vitaflo-VIA.com

Access to the site is restricted to healthcare professionals and requires registration but access to the downloadable information is free.

There are resources here that include practical guides for professionals on:

  • Nutritional assessment of children with kidney disease
  • Energy and protein requirements of children with CKD 2-5 and on dialysis
  • The dietary management of calcium and phosphate in children with CKD 2-5 and on dialysis
  • The dietary management of potassium in children with CKD 2-5 and on dialysis
  • Delivery of a nutritional prescription by enteral tube feed in children with CKD 2-5 and on dialysis

For many of these aspects, there are also downloadable information sheets for patients and parents.

Printed versions of these booklets may be obtained from Vitaflo - enquire through your local dietitian.

The range of resources for healthcare professionals are showcased in this short video:

Patients and families can be encouraged to access Vitaflo’s website for patients at www.myrenalnutrition.com.

There are lots of interractive resources here but they are designed to be used in conjunction with advice that has been given by the clinical team and should always be used alongside guidance from a paediatric dietitian.
